Hi all!
Maybe this is not the proper mailinglist for my problem, but here it
is anyway....
What I hope to achieve with this mail:
- Somebody tells me that I have described the problem with enough detail
to be sure that the problem can only be <......>. or
- To get in touch with somebody (maybe with the same configuration?) to
compare configurations..... or
- Somebody in this area (Rotterdam, Holland) has /exactly/ the same
configuration (Eneco/bART/AriadneII/Genesis) and wants to send his
configuration files to me to compare.....

I have just bought a couple of Ariadne IIs and I hoped to be able to
connect my cablemodem to it and use the Genesis package that was
supplied with the card to use internet from my Amiga instead of having
to use the PC for this.....
So far no problem I would think. But it does not work and I don't
know why! Because I have never set up an internet or network connection
for my Amiga (yet) the only thing I can do now is rely
on other Amigans to help me.
The following is a description of all the things that could be important
to discover what is wrong in my setup. No particular order.
1) Description of my setup:
Standard A4000 desktop with kickstart 3.1.
CyberStormPPC + 060 and a CVisionPPC
Ariadne II and Genesis
It is maybe important to know that I have a static IP address
2) The "Com21 ComPORT" cable modem has a 10BaseT Ethernet Port which
connects to the Ethernet card of the computer. When I connect a cable
from the cable modem to the ethernet card in my PC I can use internet
without any problems. When I take that cable out of my PC and plug it
into the Ariadne II in my Amiga I have no such luck.....
3) I have installed Genesis and (I think) I configured it correctly.
When I start Genesis I get the message: "Ariadne is now online" and the
counter starts counting.....
4) My cablemodem has an indicator light to indicate 'Carrier Detect'.
When I use internet on my PC this light is always on. On my Amiga it is
not on. Not even after starting Genesis.
5) After starting Genesis I try to ping an IP address.
My own IP and 'localhost' are the only IPs that reply, the rest has 100%
packet loss....
If I ping the outside world something happens with the 'Carrier Detect'
light on my cable modem. In this case the light starts blinking.
6) The tool 'SanaIIDevStat' indicates that I am sending packets. The
number of sent packets slowly increases.
If I ping to the outside the world the number of sent items increases
faster than before, but also the number of received items increases in
this case......
7) To be sure it was not the card or my A4000 that caused this behaviour
I tried two Ariadne IIs each in two different slots in my Amiga. It did
not change anything. Still you can never be sure that this is not the
case.....
Can somebody please, please help. I am so close to using internet on my
beloved Amiga (but yet so far).....
Thanks for any help you can offer me!
Best regards,
//Niels de Koning
