Hi. I have Genesis (Ariadne II version, will upgrade soon!) and am
looking to get a fast net connection in Hampshire, UK. I actually live
in Portsmouth, and it seems my options are very limited.

NTL Cable Modem
---------------
Not available here yet, but should be soonish. Requires a 150 cable
modem and ethernet with a TCP/IP stack supporting DCHP. I remember
reading DCHP was on the feature list for the next version of Genesis,
any idea when it will be available?

The problem with this service is that it gives you a dynamic IP address
that can change even when you are online. Correct me if I'm wrong, but
that means no FTP servering. You only get 5 email address's, so there is
no change I'll get [EMAIL PROTECTED] and even if I do I'll get loads of
other peoples spam. Also, I don't think Quake would like your IP address
to change mid game..

Oh, and you have to share bandwidth with other users on your local loop
(usually at least 50 others, not often more than 80), so the speed could
drop easily at any time.

ASDL
----
BT are dragging their feet here and I have no idea when it will be
available. It will expensive too. Not really an option right now as I
don't expect to see it this millenium :(

Satelight
---------
Far too expensive, plus you have to share a satelight with others so you
get the same problems as cable modems.

Has anyone got any other ideas on how I can get a faster connection.
ISDN is just too expensive and I want something perminent anyway, not
billed by useable but by a flat rate.

Thanks,
Paul
