Its not the modemspeed, its the compression protocol. I think the most 
effective is V34+ (or V34bis??) something like this. V90, used by the 
56K Modems is not much better than V34+. But its now a year back that
I used my last modem. Have a look on the Genesis Prefs, you can choose
a Modemcompression (MPP,VJ,BSD and Deflate), I used VJ with my 
060 CPU, and I got  about 5100 CPS instead of 4400.
