Depends on your use-case, scenario and privileges. If you got root,
chroot may be much easier indeed.
Yes, I am doing some development on PiTiVi this summer, and I want easy
access to the latest gstreamer releases on my laptop. I don't want to
spend ~30 hours configuring a machine on which I depend every day, but
installing bleeding-edge gstreamer manually from source is a pain I can
do without.
