Seriously.  This bickering isn't helpful.  You posted an idea on -dev.
It might be a great idea.  Let's at least allow it to be discussed
before implementing it.

This isn't about the stable branch.  It is about how we do things.  If
everybody just started making global changes less than a day after
posting about it on -dev there would be chaos.
