Try rmerge. It's absolutely new, nearly untested and thus dangerous.
I think rmerge is not the right solution because you cannot do another emerge in parallel. Adding environment variables to change the make.conf and profiles path is much better IMO. (see http://www.mail-archive.com/gentoo-portage-dev%40lists.gentoo.org/msg01119.html).
