Useflags like opengl, xv, or sdl should be disabled anyway. Those are only needed for graphical stuff, so you will never _ever_ need them on a standard webserver. I'd say not the maintainers fault. I think, what was suggested above ("set -* for the USE-Flags and only add those you need") is the best way to go.
