make sure your entire spool is owned by the virtual user....

chown -R vmail: /var/mail/vhosts/

and that uid and gid are set in the main.cf
# id vmail
uid=1000(vmail) gid=1000(vmail) groups=1000(vmail)

/etc/postfix/main.cf

virtual_minimum_uid = 1000
virtual_uid_maps = static:1000
virtual_gid_maps = static:1000
