Hi, I was recently asked whether I could recommend a domain registrar (preferably based in the UK). In the case of the company I'm working for right now, many domains are managed through 123-reg.co.uk which does not have a particularly good track record [1] in terms of the reliability of their infrastructure, not to mention awkward management tools. Nonetheless, I'm sticking to the status quo because going through the bureaucratic process of transferring authority would be more trouble than it's worth. Other than that, I would normally procure domains as part of a hosting package with an ISP that I deem reputable.
In this case, it's a personal request and the domains will be independently registered (with hosting to be considered further on down the road). So it occurred to me that I wasn't really in a postition to actually recommend any particular registrar for an independent registration of a .com/.co.uk. I was wondering if anyone on the list might have any thoughts on the matter. I'm aware that most registrars are much of a muchness, especially as it does not tend to be a profit-making service. Nonetheless, if there is a registrar based in the UK that is known to have a solid infrastructure and that provides reasonable support, I'd be happy to hear about it.
