My current laptop is just about to die, and I'm in the market for a new one (even a used one, but new to me) that will be fully supported. Thus far, every laptop I have used has had one piece of hardware or another not quite work...this holds true for all my distros of choice - kinda sad :)
Every single piece of hardware - including the modem, Ethernet, FireWire, USB, and Airport - is supported on my Apple PowerBook. The only bit I haven't actually tried to activate is the external SVGA port, but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work as it's attached to the same video chip.
The problem with Gentoo/PPC is that most of the neat packages are still masked or non-functional. I'd like to see that fixed. :-)
Unfortunately, I don't know of any PC laptops with that level of Linux support. Props to BenH for that achievement with the PowerBooks. Even the "Linux certified" laptops usually have a software modem, which sucks.
