PS: and the same way, a changelog would be useful when upgrading to know about all the cool new feature.
There are changelogs, just look in /usr/portage/i-dont-remember/portage/Changelog
There are Changelog's for every package.
In /usr/portage/sys-apps/portage/ChangeLog. This is the content of the one I have on my machine:
# ChangeLog for sys-apps/portage
# Copyright 2002-2003 Gentoo Technologies, Inc.; Distributed under the GPL v2
# $Header: /home/cvsroot/gentoo-x86/sys-apps/portage/ChangeLog,v 1.22 2003/02/12 09:05:54 vapier Exp $
# See the gentoo-src Portage ChangeLog for up-to-date release information:
Not very interesting in itself.... well, except for the link it gives :p
This thing is there is a --changelog option for emerge but it doesn't work for portage. When you think of it, it's kind of weird for a program to offer a feature that it doesn't use itself.
