I am having a similar and need to recompile the kernel to make
ide-scsi a module. Being a newbie and very nervous could you give me
the name of the ide-scsi module that I will have to add to autoload.
Hoping this will correct my problems. Thanks for your help.

Is there something unstable about some of the recent kernel releases. I
keep hearing this same old (from my perspective, at least) tired
response that you need to have ide-scsi as a module to get scsi
emulation to work for CD writers. I've always used built-in for both
ide-scsi and scsi emulation, and I've never had the slightest problem,
other than initially when the devfsd.conf entries were not correct.

What's the scoop?
