  the appearance of anti-aliased fonts depend a lot on resolution, the
  font in question and the fontsize.  it's a good idea to check the
  font settings with gnome-control-center, see the details button for
  more details (duh).  using an LCD panel and subpixel anti-aliasing
  stuff in galeon are _crisp_ beyond belief.

  I do admit I had to work quite a bit to make the menus in Gnome look
  nice, but that was mostly solved by choosing a good sans serif font.
