Is there a specific media type you're interested in? I find the gxine

As I use his new machine, (not delivered to him yet) trying to make web
browsing more enjoyable seems important. On my boxes it isn't, but it's
mostly because I haven't studied how to make it work well. This weekend I
was trying to learn about the plug-in architecture and find some set of
solutions that worked. I got part way, but not really very far. That's what
I'm trying to do.

Either gxine or mplayer will take care of most audio/video formats. Macromedia provides a flash plugin (which you can install with "emerge netscape-flash"). That covers 95% of the non-pure-html pages out there.

Some web pages are stupid, though. For example, ifilm.com looks for specific plugins instead of checking to see if there is a plugin to handle the formats it wants. In that case, crossover plugin may be the only option.
