Linux->Linux, XP->Linux

That is not complicate. There are several ways.

Hardware:
If each machine needs to connect Internet and you want to setup a permanent connection for data transfer between them, then each machine needs 2 NICs. Suppose eth0 of each machine goes Internet. Connect eth1 of each machine with a crossover cable. Setup for data transfer which I have done previously is as follows;

Method 1
Samba - please refers to its Howto for setup

Method 2
SSH - please follow the link "File transfer with SSH" started by me previously on this List.

Hello to all!
Could someone please explain me (step by step) how to connect two

running Linux through a x-over cable?
What if one of these computers is running WindowsXP?

It is as simple as plugging each end of the crossover cable into each

computer's network

card. Then, assign both of them an IP address, probably 192.168.0.1 and

192.168.0.2, but

you can use whatever you want. Keep in mind that a crossover cable is not

the same as a

regular CAT5 patch cable. Its a special cable that has a few wires crossed

at one end.
