I got (maybe) the same thing. I got put into twm or some such WM. To fix it I had to run:
genkdmconf --no-old


Read /usr/kde/3.2/share/config/kdm/README for more details.
I still haven't got sessions working properly yet. For some reason it doesn't read from /etc/X11/Sessions as kde3.1 did. The tab page to configure sessions is also missing from Login Manager. Better than not being able to log in at all, though!

Though I had my own solution for now: I hardcoded the kdm from 3.1.4 in the xdm startup script.
