I've got a network interface configured but I don't want it to be started at boot (this is a laptop).
I don't know why, but it is started anyway.

Anything that depends on net.
Your best bet is to move net.eth0 outside /etc/init.d leaving just net.lo (which should satiate the net-hungry services).
