But it's just an operating system, after all. I'm sure most of us have changed our OS several times over the years? Over the years, I've used four different Linux distros, FreeBSD, Solaris, and a half-dozen Windows versions. Be flexible and change as your requirements change. If gentoo stops meeting your requirements (either because the quality decreases or support ends) then simply replace it.
