Of course there will be a few gems that get lost, but overall, there's more for everyone. And even if a good project does die, being open source means that there's not all this political cruft attached to it. Anyone can pick up a dead project and bring it back to life.
Yep. But when a project dies, there's almost always something out which is alot better. Meanwhile, i can't see anything superior to gentoo, and i also can't see any reason to start a gentoo replacement project. IMHO, gentoo's future should be bright at least for the next couple o' years.
