Hi Dennis > That's why I suspect hardware problems.
I see. Sorry if I appeared rude, it wasn't my intention. :-) > I have two shuttle machines & > love them (pyhsically small, quiet, reliable, etc.). Yes, that's what drew me to them in the first place. > Have you tried backing off the clock? No, not yet. > What exactly are the circumstances of reboot failure? >From CD there are a number of problems from Kernel Panic, to Init Failure to Runtime Level change failure. Both CD boot and installed OS boot have suffered these. > Has the machine been running (that is, is it warm) or has it been off for a while and just > been restarted? Both at one time or another. Something I do seem to get (when using XP currently) is that after a cold start the machine resets itself. This seems to go away once it gets warm. > Does it always reliably boot off CDROM but fails to boot off hard disk? No. I haven't had either reliably. However, all is not bad this morning. I've just booted successfully from the Gentoo 1.4 AthalonXP LiveCDs, without having to pass any Kernel Parameters and even my NIC was detected. I'm going to have a go at installing it later this afternoon. Please keep your fingers crossed for me! Thanks!
