That seems to be a bug. Can you remove -gtk2 again, run "emerge -ep" and then tell us which package comes immediately after gtk+? Thanks.

I don't think its a bug. 'gtk2' was just added to the default USE flags. My server did the same thing. Although, nothing it wanted to install had the 'gtk2' use flag.
