Looks to me like it's working but you're not seeing the effect immediately as I do. Do you see the changes after logging out of KDE and logging in again?

Sounds like he's having the same problem I did.
Just logging out and then back in didn't show the changes. But when I killed X (ctrl-alt-bckspc) and then restarted kdm and logged in, the changes were there.
