hold on i may have out you wrong in my porevious message by implying
that the module is called bt848/bt878. The module is called bttv. The
option in make menuconfig|xconfig is "BT848 Video for Linux". To eneble
it you need to choose the following BEFORE BT848 appears as a choice. 

(dang it here is the whole Help bit for bt848:

"BT848 Video For Linux (VIDEO_BT848)

Support for BT848 based frame grabber/overlay boards. This includes
the Miro, Hauppauge and STB boards. Please read the material in
<file:Documentation/video4linux/bttv/> for more information.

If you say Y or M here, you need to say Y or M to "I2C support" and
"I2C bit-banging interfaces" in the character device section.

To compile this driver as a module, choose M here: the
module will be called bttv."


The reason it doesn;t appear as an option until I2C and I2C bit-banging
are chosen is that btv won't work without I2C etc.
