the only reason gentoo is not for newbies is ego and hubris.
Maybe only a very small part of the reason is "ego and hubris", sometimes even I have technical problems that would seem trivial if not for a few years of Debian experience.
These trivial problems are mostly related to updating/compiling packages (probably because my system wasn't perfectly configured when I started and ACCEPT_KEYWORDS='~x86') These types of problems are way less likely using a Debian/Suse etc.
After a newby gets his/her hands dirty and feels comfortable playing with more power... Gentoo is clearly an option.
What is the point of a newby trying to use a tool he doesn't understand when simpler options exist that save both his/her time and ours as well?
