Brother printers, are a project to get working under Gentoo. Not sure if the sproradic driver coverage for Brother printers has been fixed/addressed. Check out the price of replacement cartridges, as over time that will define the cost of ownership. Also check out the power consumption while printing (if you print a lot), during standby and in "off" mode. Many printers still draw power when in the off position (get an amp meter to check this).... I keep all but one printer on a power strip and drop power to them all, via the mechanical spdt switch on the power strip, except when needed (several specialty printers). Never plug a printer into a UPS, unless it has double the capacity of the "in-rush" (powering up the fuser) of the printer. Some printers draw some serious currents when powering up (10 amps or more) or briefly when printing. The newer HP laser printer models will be the most power efficient. hth, James
