Try: genkernel --gensplash=emergence --gensplash-res=1024x768 initrd genkernel puts all those nifty little things in your initrd. You could add "--menuconfig" if you want to check your kernel options. Look up the exact name of the generated initrd in /boot and adjust your grub entry accordingly.
