There are other things that affect the latencies too. One is the timer
frequency setting. The 100Hz setting has the worst latency BTW.

Con Kolivas has tried to address this problem with his kernel patches.
Many people me included think that he has succeeded.

Give Cons patches a try:
# emerge ck-sources

As a matter of fact I'm using ck9 at this very moment and
I also think that the scheduler is a lot better than the vanilla
scheduler. CK has even the feature that I mention
echo "0" > /proc/sys/kernel/interactive
Unfortunately in this case it doesn't help either.

I will try 1000Hz setting but as we all remember
kernel 2.4 has 100Hz and it works just fine.
