"to reduce carbon emissions" can not be "urgent need", because reducing carbon emissions does not mean removing excessive CO2, it means only decreasing the speed of increasing of the excessive CO2 reducing carbon emissions cannot stop the global warming the carbon capturing either cannot stop, because, for example, if it will take about 20% of current power to capture current emissions, plus 20% of current power to rollback previous emissions, then even after switching in this 40% mode it can take minimum 50 years to capture all excessive CO2. I don't know how long time can it take to increase the power by 40%? I think taking in account the political and storage problems all capturing will take minimum 100 years. Also there will be new problems produced by global warming itself. This is what should be calculated first of all. After it will be done it will be possible to say what climate will we have when we finish capturing all? And if that climate is acceptable then we can say that geoengineering is not necessary. Saying frankly, I personally do not believe that humanity will switch into that 40% mode, such sacrifice is not typical for capitalism and liberal democracy. Capitalism and liberal democracy usually start to sacrifice only when the catastrophe starts to hurt strongly. At this point the political situation already will not favor the strict international co-operation and hard limitations. In other words the chaos will come earlier than that 40% mode. So anyway we need to start geoengineering ASAP - to delay the arrival of chaos.
