Introducing the world's next largest natural gas reserve?

I never thought that I would be saying this but in a worse case scenario
the deployment of white plastic sheeting could be utilized over
permafrost regions if it was determined that a potential methane out gassing
reached a yet to-be-determined critical thermal state. The white plastic
sheeting would not only provide an emergency albedo effect to enhance snow
and ice cover but it could also temporarily trap the methane underneath.
The methane could be captured or "funneled" for storage. Between the oil
consumption used in the plastic sheeting and the idea of capturing natural
gas, who would have ever thought that the petroleum industry could
potentially become the next powerful ally in the fight against climate
change?
