Then there's Google Ngram for a historical perspective on the use of
"geoengineering" and "carbon dioxide removal"
in millions of books:

and the preceding terms vs "climate change" and "global warming":

>In Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory report LA-6405, Herman Hoerlin gave
the following explanation of the history of the original Argus
experiment and of how the nuclear detonations lead to the development of
artificial radiation belts.[1]
>>"Before the discovery of the
natural Van Allen belts in 1958, N. C. Christofilos had suggested in
October 1957 that many observable geophysical effects could be produced
by a nuclear explosion at high altitude in the upper atmosphere. This
suggestion was reduced to practice with the sponsorship of the Advanced
Research Project Agency (ARPA) of the Department of Defense and under
the overall direction of Herbert York, who was then Chief Scientist of
ARPA. It required only four months from the time it was decided to
proceed with the tests until the first bomb was exploded. The code name
of the project was Argus. Three events took place in the South Atlantic.
... Following these events, artificial belts of trapped radiation were
observed. "A general description of trapped radiation is as follows.
Charged particles move in spirals around magnetic-field lines. The pitch
angle (the angle between the direction of the motion of the particle
and direction of the field line) has a low value at the equator and
increases while the particle moves down a field line in the direction
where the magnetic field strength increases. When the pitch angle
becomes 90 degrees, the particle must move in the other direction, up
the field lines, until the process repeats itself at the other end. The
particle is continuously reflected at the two mirror points — it is
trapped in the field. Because of asymmetries in the field, the particles
also drift around the earth, electrons towards the east. Thus, they
form a shell around the earth similar in shape to the surface formed by a
field line rotated around the magnetic dipole axis."

>Ionospheric
research instruments like HAARP, Arecibo, and Tromso, upper atmospheric
radars, or "Sky Heaters" in conjunction with chemical releases by
sounding rocket and satellite are used to "modify" the sky to produce a
myriad of effects, none of which are discussed publicly, anywhere.

>"LifeScience: A rocket experiment set to launch Tuesday aims to create
>artificial clouds at the outermost layers of Earth's atmosphere.
>>The project, called the Charged Aerosol Release Experiment (CARE), plans to
>>trigger cloud formation around the rocket's exhaust particles. The clouds are
>>intended to simulate naturally-occurring phenomena called noctilucent clouds,
>>which are the highest clouds in the atmosphere.
>>"This is really essentially at the boundary of space," said Wayne Scales, a
>>scientist at Virginia Tech who will use computer models to study the physics
>>of the artificial dust cloud as it's released. "Nothing like this has been
>>done before and that's why everybody's really excited about it."
>>The experiment is the first attempt to create artificial noctilucent clouds.
>>A previous spacecraft, called Aeronomy of Ice in the Mesosphere (AIM),
>>launched in 2007 to observe the natural clouds from space.
>>CARE is slated to launch Tuesday between 7:30 and 7:57 p.m. EDT (2330 and
>>2357 GMT) from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia.
>>Noctilucent means "night shining" in Latin. Although difficult to spot with
>>the naked eye, the clouds are best visible when Earth's surface is in
>>darkness and sunlight from below the horizon illuminates the high-altitude
>>clouds.
>>These clouds, also known as polar mesospheric clouds, are made of ice
>>crystals. The natural ones tend to hover around 50 to 55 miles (80 to 90 km)
>>above the Earth. CARE will release its dust particles a bit higher than that,
>>then let them settle back down to a lower altitude.
>>"What the CARE experiment hopes to do is to create an artificial dust layer,"
>>Scales told SPACE.com. "Hopefully it's a creation in a controlled sense,
>>which will allow scientists to study different aspects of it, the turbulence
>>generated on the inside, the distribution of dust particles and such."
