Well, the 606 was going a bit too fast. I mention again the natural process
(weathering of basic minerals), that has captured almost all the CO2 that was
ever emitted by volcanoes during the whole existence of our planet. We were
happier than our sister planet Venus, because there was no liquid water on that
planet, so all that volcanic CO2 was collecting in the atmosphere, which is now
a CO2 blanket in which life is impossible. The process Is still capturing CO2,
but these days we ourselves are emitting much more than volcanoes do, so CO2
levels are rising. The weathering of basic minerals can be increased fairly
simply, because the amount of weathering depends essentially on the extent of
the contact of those minerals with water + CO2. This means that the process is
scalable, by mining the olivine rock, milling it and spreading the grains,
which obviously have a much higher contact surface than solid rock. Regards,
Olaf Schuiling

Hi Greg:

Sorry for the typo - it was 406 ppm at MLO last week. Even in Jim Inhofe’s and
Scott Pruitt’s wildest dreams, which may coincide with some of society’s worst
nightmares, I think it’s unlikely that any of my students will see 606 ppm in
their lifetimes. Of course, that doesn’t mean the current administration isn’t
trying its best to make it so…

Regards,
Chuck

Hi Greg:

I was at the MLO last week with my students, and CO2 concentration was 606 ppm.

GR - If anthro emissions have plateaued,

why the dramatic increase in CO2? A runaway GH is upon us? Anyway, is it time
yet to admit that anthro emissions reduction is failing and to find out if CDR
is more than a figment of IPCC's imagination?
