*MEER:RefEction zoom talk01*
https://youtu.be/o8KN1TSfkAk

by Bud Blumenthal

3 way conversation with Ye Tao, Bud Blumenthal and Roger Hallam about the
MEER:ReflEction Framework as the optimal geo-engineering approach to
planetary survival in the near term.
Since CO2 reduction cannot reduce the increase of planetary heating for 200
years at minimum, extinction-level heat accumulation is predicted within
the next 10 to 20 years.
Immediate Implementation of Planet-level Cooling is necessary to avoid
complete biological and civilisational collapse across continents, regions
and societies.
Various geo-engineering strategies have been proposed, tested and some are
in research or deployment. However based upon first-principles approach to
physical system-level thermal dynamics, it becomes abundantly clear that
all are insufficient or failing in crucial aspects considering the enormous
physical dimension of the problem, the energy and material resource costs
or the necessity of huge time-scale of stable integrity of the system
reaching 200 to years minimum and up to 1000 years.

*A technofix for the climate? Marine geoengineering*
https://youtu.be/_-iu7po7N6c

by Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung

Large-scale technological interventions to “fix” the climate crisis are
moving up on the political agenda. Some climate scientists are now
proposing geoengineering interventions in the oceans to halt global
warming, such as fertilizing the oceans to draw down CO2 or to cover up
large oceanic areas with synthetic materials to make their surfaces more
reflective letting them absorb less sunlight and therefore less heat. But
these schemes to manipulate our ecosystems and global natural processes
come with great risks and uncertainties, as well as with foreseeable
adverse impacts on marine ecosystems and human communities.

Management)*

Large-scale technological interventions to “fix” the climate crisis are
moving up on the political agenda. Some climate scientists are now
proposing geoengineering interventions in the atmosphere to suppress global
warming - most prominently SAI (Stratospheric Aerosol Injection): The idea
here is to inject inorganic particles – such as sulphur dioxide – into the
stratosphere to block incoming sunlight.
In other schemes, plastic beads and other materials are proposed to cover
ice surfaces to prevent them from melting. These schemes to manipulate our
ecosystems come with great risks and uncertainties, as well as with
foreseeable adverse impacts on our natural ecosystems and human communities
depending on them.
