I would suggest treating the data like any other line data.  The assumption
is that the lines are identified with a value that corresponds to the
elevation and that the points have known coordinates.  You may have to use
some approach to calculate a channel equal to the elevation.  There are any
number of programs that can do that sort of thing Excel, StatMost, etc.
Once you have line data with correct values, you can calculate a grid if
you wish or plot the lines on other maps.  You can use line selection
procedures to select all lines of a given value or range of values and plot
them in different colors.

Does anyone have a way to convert contours into grids, or data
points?  I've got a DXF file with topo contours that I want to import into
a GRD or GDB.  Any ideas?
