Hi all, I'm here today to declare static map generation old and boring, and to sell you the wonderful world of movie maps instead! Err... well, sort of... interested in animated maps anyways?
The proposal, http://geoserver.org/display/GEOS/GSIP+62+-+WMS+animator , contains the elements for two simple additions to WMS core: - an animated GIF output format that plays hand in hand with time and elevation support, and would generate animated GIFs if you provide more than one time or one elevation in the request - a generic animator endpoint, similar in all intents and purposes to the reflector, that would allow to build the frames of an animation by replacing in turn a set of values in one of the WMS request parameters, be it the bbox, the layers, the sql view parameters, the cql filter, pretty much anything (well, besides width and height, those need to stay put). The animator is something we want to add because we're facing numerous animation needs that cannot just be faced with the plain time/elevation support. Please give the proposal a go and tell us what you think: http://geoserver.org/display/GEOS/GSIP+62+-+WMS+animator Cheers Andrea -- ------------------------------------------------------- Ing.
