There is a recent best practice document about WFS-G that looks more like a
full spec to me, it has been released Feb 2012:

It seems one has to only expose a single feature type, complex one, so
yeah, it seems like a job for the complex
feature store, though probably a custom store would do the job fine as
well... the drawback of the custom store
is that it would likely demand a specific database structure as well,
app-schema store is more flexible in this
respect
