Niels, ResourceTest passes on Linux on a case-insensitive filesystem so I have no evidence that case-insensitivity is an issue. I could find no other templates that could clash with resourceDirectory.ftl. Case insensitivity failures normally work the other way, when fixtures that work on Windows fail to find their files on Linux.
I have looked into freemarker exception handling and as far as I can tell we are already using a handler with debug support. At the moment the build defaults to -DquietTests=true which suppresses all logger output. I have set -DquietTests=false for GeoServer-Master on winbuild and kicked it to see if we can get some better information from freemarker. A local test with an intentionally broken resourceDirectory.ftl suggests that this should help. Kind regards, Ben.
