I've been working on this proposal. I've update the wiki [1] and made the first PR [2]. It is tagged WIP, so we can have time to discuss it and improve before going forward. I've made a very simple screencast, using the ResourceInfo class with these new methods. It takes has 4 minutes [3]. Boundless GeoServer Explorer plugin (developed by Victor Olaya) is no longer maintained. With this proposal, users will be able to share styles between QGIS and GeoServer much easier. I'll be around to improve the proposal.
