Thanks Arne, I don't think it was permissions. They were unchanged from
start to finish.

I agree that the installer should not create the directory until it's needed
- Much cleaner.

I did struggle a bit getting the URL set up in my client, so several planets
may just have aligned at once.

Either way it's working now - Am very happy!

Cheers, Sam

Subject: Re: [Geoserver-users] TMS URL Format for GeoWebCache on GeoServer

I think something else must be going on here,,, both functions that depend
on the directory gwc to exist should also create it if it's not there
already. I think this is cleaner, since a lot of people will not be using
GWC.

It's possible the geoserver data directory was not writable initially (file
permissions or servlet container security settings), or it could have been
something else altogether.

Arne et al.,

I finally got a nightly snapshot set up on my test-bed (~Thursday) which
included the GWC/TMS fix you mentioned ~mid month. Thanks a ton man . It
works a treat!

There was a bit of confusion early on a) because I was tired/drunk and b)
because I couldn't find out where GWC was writing to. It started out in:

C:\geoserver-2.0-SNAPSHOT\webapps\geoserver\data\gwc

But possibly because data_dir/gwc didn't exist. I'm sorry I worked through
this too impetuously and didn't note down the exact conditions, but ~some
time~ after creating the "traditional" cache dir as
C:\geoserver-2.0-SNAPSHOT\data_dir\gwc, things started going as planned.

Any ideas why? Should a SNAPSHOT becoming an full-fledged release include
data_dir/gwc by default?

Thanks again! Now to hone my GEOEXT gestalt.
