Yep, in the last wms shootout all the tests that were performend on linux,
with the same hardware _and_
wms server (OS being the one and only difference) were faster by a good
margin (20% and more if memory
serves me right).
GeoServer wise we did not bother to run official test on windows due to that
difference (there was not much time
available so only only worked on the more promising alternatives)
