Hi,

Unfortunatly I cannot move to a linux platform because this machine is
also used for Microsoft .net WCF webservices.
Erdas Appollo 2011 runs on the same machine so that should be an equal
comparison. Both go through IIS and AJP13
ECW data is on a raid 5 configuration with 'default' 5400 rpm 2.5"
disks (6x 500GB disk in a 1U server)

Advantage of Apollo 2011 (with JBoss) is that it seems to use 64bit
native ECW dll's.
I couldn't manage to get Geoserver working with 64bit jdk, GDAL,
64bit jai and ECW support so that's all 32bit.
In this case it should not really matter I guess..
Apollo seems to perform better then Geoserver when more concurrent
users are defined than there are tomcat/geoserver instances.

Some test with JMeter (6 concurrent users, 300 samples taken) results so far:
Geoserver: Random JPG WMS requests of 800x800 pixels (with 6 geoserver
instances) take on average 1400msec
Apollo 2011: Random JPG WMS requests of 800x800 pixels take on average 1100msec

I followed most of the rules described here:
http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/production/index.html
Are there any suggested settings for JAI, WCS, WMS (Max rendering
memory, etc) and Coverage Access Settings?

My current JVM (JDK server) settings:
-Xmx1300m
-XX:MaxPermSize=256m
-XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError
-XX:+UseParallelGC

Thanks in advance for any tips/tricks,

Sjoerd
