Hi,
normally upgrading a GeoServer from version N to N+1 does not require
any manual changes. So, theoretically, that should also work transitively.
In practice, with such a large jump, there might be issues due to bugs in
the upgrade process,
different behavior and so on... but you'll find out only by trying
