We should be making much more rapid releases, so that gaping
changes don't develop between the stable branch and the trunk.

I'm working right now on improving the Maven 2 build (since the recent Maven 2.0.1 release is now capable to fork tests, I hope to be able to run the same test suite than Maven 1). I think once ready, I should be able to make frequent releases with minimal effort, at least in the Maven 2 repository (http://maven.geotools.org/gt2/ - I will try to move it to a faster server and translate the message on the top of the page).

I would like to make the Geotools 2.2-M3 release in a few weeks as the first experimental release build by Maven 2. If everything work well, performing releases with Maven 2 should be automatic enough to make it easy to release Geotools frequently. Note that the automatic release process do not include upload on sourceforge; this part will need to be done manually (and I'm not sure that I will have the time to perform this manual part for every release).

        Martin.
