Have refactored the tree and names. So it should work (for you, for
know) ...
but the process is obviuously fragile - by the time we get to put a
resource into test-data we already have a path from hell...

and any user can bury this arbitrarily deep with his own internal path.
Solutions: two come to mind...
1) set a max path length for the repo, and all committers are expected
to check out at a path that brings this up to the maximum supported, so
they see the issue before committing
2) create a maven process that performs a max path length check (maybe
make it part of the test target)
I'd also suggest that we allow offending files to be moved temporarily
by anyone in the PMC...

It always happen on that file (and yes, I tried to cleanup, but as I
said, even a brand new checkout fails with that error).
Maybe something broke on the server, or that file has specific
characteristics?
