thank you, it worked :)
Cool, sorry about the hassle

but the process is obviuously fragile - by the time we get to put a resource into test-data we already have a path from hell... http://svn.geotools.org/geotools/trunk/gt/modules/unsupported/community-schemas/community-schema-ds/src/test/resources/org/geotools/data/complex/test-data

That may be shortened to:

http://svn.geotools.org/geotools/trunk/gt/modules/unsupported/community-schemas/ds/src/test/resources/test-data
I guess so - its the /org/geotools/data/complex/ bit that I'm not sure about - how hard coded the package stuff is into the process

without losing much of the meaning, no?
Anyways, I fully agree, fragile it is.

and any user can bury this arbitrarily deep with his own internal path.

Solutions: two come to mind...
1) set a max path length for the repo, and all committers are expected to check out at a path that brings this up to the maximum supported, so they see the issue before committing

Not sure how would you implement this. As a server side check? (I've
been hearing of commit hooks that can be activated

Not sure how you would enforce it, just part of the "if you do this you wont break it for others" commit sanity checks, but the real issue is still (already!) making sure users dont check out tto deep. Dont see how this can be done at the server side
2) create a maven process that performs a max path length check (maybe make it part of the test target)

Hum, that would be something to be run from the root of the checkout,
and spanning down to whatever is under it. Not sure the maven vision
of the file system is good enough, but we can try.

I'd also suggest that we allow offending files to be moved temporarily by anyone in the PMC...

Well, we can try to first ask, and then move if nothing happens
for a few hours. I would like to keep things cooled down,
thought we need a procedure to cope with people committing and then going away for holidays :)

Ok - I'll follow any policies that emerge.
Cheers
Andrea
