In previous emails i brought up two things that impacted me negatively: 1. Could not run any unit tests for any of the xml modules 2. Unable to compile on mac os Although not ideal i have managed to work around them. My larger concern is more of a philosophical one. By making a specific technology choice at the very core of a library you tie everyones hands who tries to use that library. We did this for logging. Granted the backflips we have done to allow other logging frameworks seem to be holding up for now but its not the point. In my opinion the more "bulk" we add to the core of geotools the less usable it is by others. I mean look at the state of things now... Geotools by far has the most technically superior referencing system out there... there is no dispute about that. So why isn't everyone and their dog who needs referencing support in java using it? I can list off three *major* projects who refuse to use it simply because of the number of third party dependencies it brings along. Also people seem to think that "standard" means included in the java sdk. I disagree with this definition. To me a "standard" library is one that has the most market share for a particular purpose. I know that lots of people use Jaxb for xml serialization but it is far from the de facto standard. Anyways, my 2 cents on this issue. -Justin > > --adrian > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace. > It's the best place to buy or sell services for > just about anything Open Source. > http://sourceforge.net/services/buy/index.php > _______________________________________________ > Geotools-devel mailing list > Geotools-devel@lists.sourceforge.net > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/geotools-devel > > !DSPAM:4007,4862a1da299047180515871! > -- Justin Deoliveira The Open Planning Project [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace.
