You comment is fair; there have been a couple of attempts to define an "operation" api for features similar to what JAI has going on for rasters; so far nothing has come of it. The process api was put together for WPS work and seems okay; but I was hoping for feedback from the Jesse and the fellow from SEXTANTE both of who have experience in this area.
You have cottoned on to my practice of making utility classes; it is not bad but it is not great either. There is kind of a split between making functionality for humans (like DataUtilities) and making functionality for programs (all the FunctionImpl implementations). The compromise we were talking about the other day where we have a naming convention for java programmers (in the form of a static method they can look for); and stick with implementation that can be discovered is not a bad balance. My comment was not intended to scare you; just a word of support that you are in a good position to evaluate alternatives (and hopefully kill off a few?). Simone is also in a good position but he appears to be always busy :-) Jody On Tue, Mar 24, 2009 at 2:06 PM, Michael Bedward <[email protected]> wrote: > 2009/3/24 Jody Garnett wrote: >> However you are probably in a better position to make these judgement >> calls then anyone. > > Jeepers - that's scary... knowing so little I hope and pray that > there is _someone_ who knows more. > > I could have also mentioned the process module earlier, since although > it doesn't have an JAI contents at the moment it does have the raster > to vector function which is in the same area, conceptually, as the new > Regionalize operator. > > Just to step back a bit, what I'm really interested in is contributing > to the analysis side of GeoTools which seems to get less attention > than the data management / display side.
