Is there any way the simplification can be improved in the Contour process?
I have a dataset that produces fairly smooth contours, and they are
emerging as extremely dense linestrings with far more vertices that are
needed for visual faithfulness.

The current JAITools ContourOpImage appears to apply a light simplification
of removing collinear vertices. One way to make this slightly more
effective is to remove vertices which deviate from a straight line by a
small percentage of the overall geometry envelope (e.g. 0.1 %). For
example, using this approach caused a contour line to reduce from 1835
vertices to 81 vertices, with little or no impact on appearance.
