The pull request process is unqiue to github.
It is basically a front end for the github server doing some merging on your
behalf. If you click the correct link in github it will show you the commands
to grab the pull request into your local computer (which you would want to do
to run test cases yourself etc…). This sequence of commands is similar to the
steps the server takes when you approve a pull request.
Indeed if you perform the manual steps locally, and then push the result up to
the server github will notice you have accepted the pull request and
automatically close it for you.
