Have you added the files to the git index first? "add to index" in the
context menu

Don't know about others, but normally I use eGit read only, to look at
history, run the blame command, and
sometimes to add new files to the index, but then I prefer to go to the
command line to do the actual commits, pull, pushes,
and rebases and look at diffs
