OK I have just about finished the code and tests and am nearly ready to commit.
Unfortunately the new AUTO code gets built into the file structure in e.g.
modules\library\referencing\src\main\java\org\geotools\referencing\factory\wms\Auto42003.java
So I have created a new file Auto52003.java (for no other reason than 42003 is
orthographic).
So what should this number be?
Should it be 42006 as the next one after the ones in the standard?
Or should I just create the pull request and then let people comment?

Good morning all.
I am new here and am after some advice. I presume this is the correct place to
ask.
I am using GeoServer (2.5.1) to make WMS calls and I want the map in a gnomonic
projection.
If I understand the WMS specification correctly (06-042) I need to use the AUTO
(AUTO2) namespace
for CRS "for a class of CRSs that include a user-selected centre of projection".
Correct
As the specification and the GeoTools code only contains a handful of
projections
I assume I need to make changes to the code to include a new projection.
So I have made changes to the gt-referencing module, added a new AUTO Factlet,
added a new Gnomonic projection and have got something working.
I now have two questions (one a bit general and one specific to GeoTools)
1. Is this the correct way of getting a WMS with a gnomonic projection?
I cannot see any other mechanism but the WMS specification seems a bit
specific having
just 5 projections rather than a mechanism for passing parameters into a
projection.
The other way would be to create a EPSG code, but if you need the center of it
to be
user provided, the AUTO projections are the right path
2. Should these code changes be submitted as a patch?
I have added a new AUTO namespace with an arbitrary code. This seems like
a useful addition
but is not included in the WMS (1.1.1 or 1.3.0) specification.
A pull request, with tests, please :)
About the code, we need to make sure the code won't end up conflicting with the
OGC ones.
If this was EPSG we could just pick a code > 100000, but I'm not sure which
policy OGC
used to pick the auto projection codes...
Cheers
Andrea
